Rikke Sevecke signs with Everton
The 24-year old Danish defender joins Everton immediately on a 2-year contract at the expiration of her previous contract. The Blues finished in the top half of the FA WSL in 2019/20, their best finish since 2013.
Sevecke moves to Merseyside following a year in France at FC Fleury 91, where she captained the team. Prior to moving to the D1 Feminine, Sevecke played at Brøndby, winning 3 Danish league titles (2014/15, 2016/17, 2018/19) and 3 Danish Cups (2014/15, 2016/17, 2017/18). The versatile defender, who can play centre back as well as full back, also scored 6 goals for Brøndby in the 2018/19 season and started 14 Champion’s League matches.
Rikke Sevecke: “I’m super excited to join Everton on my next step and I’m looking forward to the professional setup and level that the WSL has to offer. I can’t wait to get started and work with Willie and the team to reach our goals for the upcoming season!”
For Denmark, Sevecke has played every minute of their Euro 2022 qualifiers, also scoring her first goal for her country vs. Malta. The defender has 22 senior caps for her country, also being nominated for Danish Player of the Year in 2019.
Willie Kirk, Manager at Everton: “I’m delighted to bring Rikke to the club. I was aware of her move to France last Summer and tracked her closely in her opening few months. I then managed to watch her at this year’s Algarve Cup and her performances there cemented my thoughts on her.
She is already a very talented defender and I firmly believe that if she continues to develop, she can be one of the best centre-backs in Europe in the next few seasons.
In addition to her technical qualities, she brings leadership, she is humble and is hungry to work hard and learn. I am looking forward to working with her and helping her realise her potential.”
